NVQs

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) are work based qualifications that set the standard for the skills you need to carry out your job effectively.

NVQs are an up to date qualification that employers value for people working in different types of jobs. It is designed for full or part time workers, paid and voluntary, permanent or temporary workers. There are no formal entry requirements; however, you must have the ability to gain evidence for the qualification in the work place.

NVQs are made up of three parts:

  1. Training and study to learn about administration
  2. A working envrionment to apply the knowledge and learn the practical skills needed in the job
  3. Assessment in the workplace and portfolio work to demonstrate that you can carry out the job and have the knowledge and skills necessary.

What are the benefits of these NVQs?

Employees will benefit from:

  • A clearer understanding of their responsibility within their organisation
  • The opportunity to develop new skills
  • The recognition of existing skills
  • Improvements in the quality and service provided

With an NVQ there is no set amount of units that are required. You will however have a number of compulsory units as well as some optional units. NVQs are assessed in the workplace through observation of performance, evaluation of evidence and questioning.

There is no set time limit for completing your NVQ course. Depending on how the course ties in with your work schedule, you can take as long as you need to complete the course. The fantastic part about taking an NVQ is that you can study it in a manner that suits you and your employer.

An NVQ course can suit a first time employee or a seasoned manager or director; the level of qualification relates to the level of responsibility of your job role.
